Dr. Brokaw, a native of Indiana, graduated in 1982 from Indiana University (Bloomington) and the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1987. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1992. While a chief resident, Dr. Brokaw received the Outstanding Senior Resident Research Award. His fellowship in orthopaedic trauma was at the prestigious Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

He has been an attending orthopaedic traumatologist with OrthoIndy at Methodist Hospital for almost two decades.

Dr. Brokaw is a faculty attending for the OrthoIndy Trauma Fellowship Program and a clinical assistant professor for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University. He was a previous Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Orthopaedics at Harborview Medical Center at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is a medical officer for the Urban Search and Rescue Team in the Division of Homeland Security.
